Our work on the US Census is almost complete. We’re now working on the final key milestone.

  1. Download and process the latest versions of the US geography layers.
  2. Download and process all the available 2020 Census data.
  3. Download and process the latest ACS data.
  4. Testing, update finalisation and creating the support suite.

All that’s left for us to do is to create and finalise the supporting documents. These will explain what the update is, how to perform the update, and what support packages are available from Atlas Mapping.

We’re excited to announce that we’ll be releasing the US 2020 Census data on Monday, the 2nd of October 2023, at 8 pm (UK time). That's 3pm if you're in New York, 12pm if you're in L.A., and Tuesday the 3rd of September at 6am if you're in Sydney. The system will be down for up to 3 hours. This will mean that all services, including the API and FYN, will be offline.

What's coming in the update?

This is a big update with plenty of new and updated layers and data. You can expect the latest boundaries for the following geographies:

  • Block Groups (New to Vision)
  • Census Tracts
  • Counties
  • States
  • ZCTAs

You will then be able to access the US 2020 Census data, the latest American Community Survey data, and US Business data from Data Axle.

NOTE: You'll need to update to the latest versions of the geographic boundaries to access the latest data.

We're adding US Business Data.

We’re working with Data Axle who offers some of the most comprehensive and accurate business and consumer databases.

These business demographics will be available to clients who subscribe to the USA data pack in Vision. The demographics include the total number of businesses and the number of businesses banded by employees. These will be available for the latest version of the ZCTA geographies and any territories built from these.

We can also provide bespoke counts based on a selection of SIC codes for an additional cost. Don't hesitate to get in touch with us for more information.
